Jazz enthusiasts and anyone looking for a night out with excellent music are in for a treat when the Vermont Jazz Center Sextet comes to the Bellows Falls Union High School auditorium on Thursday, February 2nd at 7pm. The Vermont Jazz Center’s (VJC) community outreach ensemble has been working with students at BFUHS in a Jazz improvisational workshop lead by guest conductor Rob Freeberg. The concert is the culmination event of these workshops and will feature the Jazz Improv, Bellows Falls Union High School Big Band Jazz ensemble and more. Rob Freeberg who is an active member of the Vermont Jazz Center, directs the VJC Big Band for its Gala Concert and serves on its Board of Directors. He also performs with the Windham Orchestra and leads the jazz improv workshops to area high schools. Through these performances and clinics, people who might not attend concerts at the VJC are given the opportunity to hear and learn about the music of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, and others, with original music and arrangements often written by members of the ensemble. The Vermont Jazz Center Sextet performance is free and open to the public. Donations will graciously accepted to support the Bellows Falls Union High School Music Scholarship fund.
