Seniors Simon Bupp-Chickering and Ira Richardson, along with 18 other high school students throughout Vermont, were named finalists in the Senator Bernie Sanders State of the Union Essay contest. Over 650 high school students across the state had entered this contest. Bupp-Chickering and Richardson and others traveled to Montpelier for a round table discussion of the issues they wrote about with Senator Sanders at the Vermont State House. Social Studies teacher, Craig Divis and AP English teacher Judy Palmer-Guest were among those in attendance. The student essays will be entered into the congressional record, the official archive of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
